Darrow Brown
Director, The Washington State Employee Assistance Program
Darrow is the Director of the Washington State Employee Assistance Program, a program that promotes the health, safety and well-being of more than 90,000 public employees. Darrow has 20+ years of combined professional experience in information technology, social work and behavioral health, and over a decade of experience in employee assistance and workplace violence risk assessment and mitigation. Darrow is originally from Rochester, NY where he received his B.S. in Management - Information Systems, leading to a successful career as a leader in the IT field. The crisis and tragedy of 9/11 influenced his decision to change his professional focus, leading him to earn his Master of Social Work in 2007 from University of Maryland - Baltimore, School of Social Work. Following the completion of his graduate program, Darrow worked for Johns Hopkins University and Hospital/Health systems in community psychiatry, employee/student assistance and threat assessment, while also running a successful private practice. In2018, after 15 years in Baltimore, MD, Darrow relocated to the Pacific Northwest with his family, where he restarted a private practice, while continuing to provide consulting and case management services for the Johns Hopkins disruptive behaviors/workplace violence program. Darrow is a gifted counselor, consultant, speaker, and leader and is particularly skilled at helping people and organizations navigate difficult, often entrenched, problems and challenges.
