bp Cherry Point Refinery
Information
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021, bp’s Cherry Point
refinery helps meet the increasing energy demand from consumers
across Washington state and beyond, by providing cleaner fuels with
a reduced carbon footprint. Located near Bellingham, Washington,
bp’s Cherry Point in 2018, became the first and only refinery in
the Pacific Northwest capable of manufacturing diesel made from
biomass-based feedstocks. This fuel produced through co-processing
is chemically identical to petroleum diesel and can be distributed
using the same systems, but with a lower carbon footprint As the
world demands more energy, it also demands that it be produced and
delivered in new ways, with fewer emissions. At BP, we embrace this
dual challenge. We have always looked to the future, adapted to
change and met challenges like this head on. To deliver
significantly lower emissions, every type of energy needs to be
cleaner and better. Here’s how we are doing it: by reducing,
improving and creating. We’re reducing emission in our own
operations; we’re improving our products to help customers lower
their emissions; and we’re creating low carbon businesses.
